Frequently Asked Questions
  • Counselling provides a welcoming and supportive space where you can openly discuss whatever’s on your mind without fear of judgment. In this confidential environment, you are treated with respect and kindness, allowing you to feel safe and understood. Counselling is not about diagnosing you or telling you what to do - instead, it is about empowering you to take control of your own journey toward wellbeing.

Through compassionate listening and thoughtful guidance, counsellors help you identify your strengths and clarify your goals. Your progress and success depend largely on how actively you engage in the process and the meaningful, personal goals you set for yourself. Ultimately, counselling is a collaborative journey designed to support your growth and help you build the tools you need to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

  • A typical counselling session is 50 minutes. This timeframe allows us to dive deep into your thoughts and feelings without feeling rushed. It gives us enough time to explore important topics while also ensuring you have space to reflect and process what we discuss. The first session might be a bit longer, around 60 to 90 minutes, as we gather information and get to know each other better.

  • Research indicates that weekly counselling sessions are most effective. Regular sessions can help you gain momentum throughout the counselling process which can lead to faster and more meaningful progress. Of course, life can be busy, and unexpected events can arise, however, prioritising this time for yourself can make a significant difference in your progress. If you ever need to adjust the schedule, we can work together to find a rhythm that suits your lifestyle while still ensuring you receive the support you need.

  • Counselling is most effective as a journey rather than a quick fix. While you may feel relief after a few sessions, the true benefits come from a consistent process that unfolds over time. This typically includes the initial intake session, goal-setting, and various activities during and between regular sessions.

Depending on your goals, this collaborative effort may typically last anywhere from 6-12 weeks. However, everyone’s journey is unique, and some may prefer a longer process. I’ll be continually assessing and adjusting my approach to fit your individual needs as we progress. When you feel ready to wrap up our time together, know that I’m here for you, and you’re always welcome to come back if you ever need support again.

  • Psychiatrists are medical doctors specialising in mental health. They diagnose conditions and prescribe medications, often focusing on managing severe mental health issues. While some also provide psychotherapy, their main role is medical intervention when needed.

Psychologists hold advanced degrees in psychology and are trained to perform psychological assessments and offer psychotherapy for a wide range of mental health challenges. They use evidence-based approaches to help clients better understand their emotions and behaviours, promoting meaningful personal growth.

Counsellors are trained professionals dedicated to supporting individuals through everyday personal challenges like stress or relationship difficulties. In a confidential, non-judgmental setting, they provide a space to openly explore feelings and foster positive change. Their scientifically grounded therapeutic techniques focus on enhancing overall wellbeing, making counselling a valuable resource for anyone seeking support and greater emotional balance.

  • I’m happy to offer online counselling to make it easier for you to access support from the comfort of your own space. It is important that you are in a private space without risk of interruptions and with a good internet connection. I’ll provide you with a secure link for our sessions, so you can feel comfortable and at ease while we work together.

  • The first session is primarily focused on gathering information. This allows me to understand your background, current concerns, and goals. It’s a relaxed and confidential conversation where you can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. This foundation helps tailor the counselling process to best support your unique needs moving forward.

  • Email me at hello@clearmindshk.com or send a message through the form on the ‘Connect’ page and I will get back to you within 1-2 business days with next steps. I will request that you fill out an intake form ahead of your first session as it is important for understanding your background and current needs.

You can also request a complimentary 15 minute connection call if you have specific questions or would like to discuss your needs before starting sessions. This is a great opportunity for us to connect and ensure that counselling is a good fit for you. Just let me know your availability, and we’ll set up a time that works for both of us.

  • I kindly ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment. If you cancel with less than 24 hours' notice or don’t attend, there will be a charge for the session. This helps me manage my schedule and ensure that I can be there for everyone who needs support.

  • Yes, everything you share with me is confidential. As a member of the Hong Kong Professional Counseling Association (HKPCA), I strictly adhere to their code of ethics, which prioritises protecting your privacy. However, there are rare situations where I am legally or ethically required to disclose information, such as when there is a risk of harm to your safety or the safety of others. To ensure I provide the best possible support, I regularly engage in supervision with a qualified professional. During these sessions, I may discuss certain aspects of our work together, but this is always done in a confidential way focused solely on improving the care I offer you.

We will talk more about confidentiality, its limits, and supervision during our first session, so you feel fully informed and comfortable.
